Just before the Easter holidays, 3rd and 4th ESO english students watched “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde “ play, based on the famous novel written by ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” is a novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson that was first published in 1886. It is about a London lawyer named John Gabriel Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the misanthropic Edward Hyde.

The work is commonly associated with the rare mental condition often called “split personality”, wherein within the same person there are at least two distinct personalities. In this case, the two personalities in Dr Jekyll are apparently good and evil, with completely opposite levels of morality.

Our students did not like the version they could see because they did not understand the story, as in the retold version they read the characters and ending were not the same. However, they think the play was really fun and entertaining. Apart from that, the actress was really talented and she sang really well.

On the other hand, the decorations were simple but very effective and the theatre company achieved much with little details. For example, they used humble tools, such as a tent to build a laboratory and a children’s toy to pretend to have a chemical device.

Our students have also some suggestions for the company. They would like to have less  songs or at least they should be less repetitive. Moreover, they would like to see plays based on romance, mystery and adventure with some hints of science fiction.

Below some 3rd and 4th English students and the actors and actress of the Chamber theatre company on stage during the post-play debate.
